Water

Water is considered safe to drink throughout the Netherlands.

Healthcare

The Netherlands has a very modern healthcare and hospital system. All EU citizens may receive medical attention at no charge, or will be reimbursed for basic medical care received while on the island upon presentation of a EHIC Card, which must be obtained in your country of origin prior to travel.

Personal safety

The rate of violent crime in Amsterdam is generally low, although pick-pocketing and petty theft can occur. Be especially alert on the train from Schiphol Airport to Amsterdam Central Station, where thieves often work in pairs. Other areas to watch out for are: Centraal Train Station, the red light district, in restaurants and on trams.
