Leidseplein
Leidseplein might not be what you would consider as the heart of Amsterdam but this is purely geographical... Situated just 10 minutes from the central station on a tram, Leidseplein or Leidse Square is at the beating heart of the city.
Chock full of bars, restaurants and street entertainment, it is just a stone's throw from the main shopping street in Amsterdam and just a short walk to the fabulous Vondel Park or to Rembrandtsplein and De Wallen (red light district).
Good for:
All round entertainment, bars, cafés, restaurants
Good choice of accommodation options
Easy access to shopping areas, Vondelpark and red light district
Not so good for:
Can be noisy and lively late into the night
Can get very crowded
